Sporting achievements
Stirling has a long, proud history of sporting achievements in many sporting codes.
19 students achieved at a national level in sport in 2024:
Holly De Bruyn (Artistic Swimming) represented SA at the Senior World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar as a member of the Senior SA Artistic Swimming team.
Ilke De Lange & Josey Mauer (Majorettes) received their SAMCA (SA Majorette and Cheerleading Association) colours in 2023 and this year were awarded Protea colours.
Jodi Heinen (Shooting) last year was placed 2nd overall nationally and was selected for the Centrefire Juniors National Shooting team and at the 2024 Nationals she was placed 2nd overall in Juniors Centrefire and 3rd overall in Juniors Rimfire for the National team.
Chris Lombard ( Multi-Sport) represented SA at the World Biathle/Triathle Championships in Port Said, Egypt, where he competed in Triathle and Biathle.
Avuzwa Makeleni (Multi-Sport) came 2nd in South Africa in his age group at the Triathlon National Champs.
Keagan Marriott (Angling - 2023) captained the Protea U16 Light Tackle Boat team against Namibia at Loskop Dam in December 2023. He is the No.1 ranked Light Tackle Boat Angler in South Africa in U16 and U21 categories.
Kayla Petersen (Swimming) competed at the SA Junior Nationals where she attained 2nd, 4th and 5th places in Breaststroke. She then competed at the SA Senior Nationals (Olympic Trials) where she was ranked 18th in the Open 50 and 100m Breaststroke and was placed 8th in the Open 50m at the SA Short Course Nationals.
Matthew Pretorius (Swimming) achieved Golds at the Junior Nationals in the 50m Freestyle and 50m and 100m Butterfly, swimming multiple Honours cum laude times. Senior Nationals doubled as the Olympic trials and he was placed in the top 15 in the Open division, narrowly missing qualifying times.
Liam Prime (Multi-Sport) came 2nd in the 16-17 Category at the SA Duathlon Champs and 3rd in Biathle at the SA Champs, earning his Junior Protea colours and qualifying to represent SA at the World Championships in Egypt.
Kristy Sellers (Angling) travelled to Namibia as a member of the SA Women's Presidential Angling team.
Bradley Victor (Multi-Sport) was selected for the SA Biathle team and competed in the World Biathle Champs in Egypt.
Julia Kockott & Cade Clarke (Tennis) were selected for the U15 South African Tennis teams.
Katelyn Schröpfer, Mischka Sam, Rebecca Schenk, Marin Vine & Olivia Berndt (Artistic Swimming) represented South Africa at the World Aquatics Junior Artistic Swimming Championships in Lima, Peru.
National representation: In the period 1985-2024, 420 (including repeat selections) Stirling students received South African national colours or the equivalent in the following sporting codes: Angling (5), Archery (2), Athletics (3), Badminton (4), Bodybuilding (1), Canoeing (7), Cricket (3), Cricket Scoring (4), Cycling (2), Diving (7), Drum Majorettes (95), Enduro (2), Go-carting (1), Golf (5), Hockey (40), Horse Riding (16), Hydroplane (1), Indoor Cricket (1), Karate (18), Lifesaving (4), Mixed Martial Arts (1), Motor Racing (1), Multisport – Biathlon, Triathlon etc. (60) Netball (6), Shooting (2), Powerboating (1), Road Running (1), Rugby (1), Sailing (4), Softball (2), Squash (1), Surfing (16), Swimming (47), Synchronised Swimming (17), Tennis (19), Water Polo (53), Waveski (4).
Provincial representation: On average, nearly 100 Stirling students are selected each year to represent their province at sport – either Border or the Eastern Cape.
